ANNOUNCING OPEN STAFF POSITION


Senior Giving Officer


REPORTS TO: Director of Individual Giving

 

Position Summary:
The Senior Giving Officer performs duties required to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors, and prospects.  Other duties include oversight of select donor committee fundraising efforts, facilitating planned gifts, and working with Board volunteers.

 

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage portfolio of high-level ($3,000-$5,999) and mid-level ($1,500-$2,999) prospects.
  • Qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of above for both outright and planned gifts.
  • Conduct personal calls on portfolio prospects singly, as well as with musicians, Executive Staff, and Board Members.
  • Perform prospect and data entry, as needed.
  • Assist director with planning and policy for department.
  • Oversee select donor committee efforts (e.g., Gatesworth Steering Committee, Doctors & Scientists for the Symphony).
  • Whitaker Room staffing.
  • Assist other areas and members of the Development Team as needed.

 

Position Requires:

  • Minimum five years fundraising or not-for-profit development experience with an emphasis on program management and donor relations.
  • Equivalent to a complete four year college or university education.
  • Extensive background in major gift solicitations.
  • Considerable knowledge of planned giving and familiarity with related regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally in a variety of professional and social settings.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office; including, Word, Excel, Access, & Outlook.
  • An appreciation for classical music.

Under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures and source documents, the Associate Giving Officer performs duties required to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors, and prospects.  Other duties include oversight of select donor committee fundraising efforts and facilitating planned gifts.

 

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage portfolio of mid-level ($1,500-$2,999) prospects.
  • Qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of above for both outright and planned gifts.
  • Conduct personal calls on portfolio prospects
  • Perform prospect and data entry, as needed.
  • Oversee select donor committee efforts (e.g., Friends of the Symphony, Illinois initiative).
  • Build expertise in Planned Giving to develop plan for long-term program growth.
  • Whitaker Room staffing.
  • Assist other areas and members of the Development Team as needed.

 

Position Requires:

  • Minimum two years fundraising or not-for-profit development experience with an emphasis on program management and donor relations.

Director of Major Gifts


REPORTS TO: Vice President for Development


Position Summary:

Responsible for the strategy and management of the Development Department’s individual giving.  Directly responsible for staff supervision and general administration of all major gift programs for individuals, foundations, and corporations.  Maintains, under the direction of the VP for Development, the SLSO’s Planned Giving program.


Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage prospect portfolio of 75 personal contacts; 100 phone contacts
    • Where appropriate, create and customize individual gift prospectus to match Symphony objectives with donor interests
  • Attend a minimum of 15 concerts annually
  • Follow policies and procedures for the following:
    • Planned giving program
    • Prospect tracking/”moves management” system, including call reports, Tickler reports, etc.
    • Prospect ranking system for individuals and institutions
    • Staff Coordinator system
    • Prospect research, incl. reference library, basic research, briefing reports for major solicitations
  • Supervise staff of 2 professionals and one support staff member
  • Oversee select donor committee efforts (e.g. Doctors and Scientists for the Symphony)

Position Requires:

  • Minimum five years development experience, including supervision of staff, working with board members and volunteers and budgeting
  • Proven fundraising success soliciting gifts over $10,000
  • Equivalent experience to a Master’s degree.
  • Technical knowledge of the laws related to donations, computer-based management tools and planned giving practices
  • Superior writing and presentation skills
  • Strategic thinker
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office; including, Word, Excel, Access, & Outlook
  • Knowledge of classical music and the symphony field preferred.  An appreciation for classical music required.

ANNOUNCING OPEN STAFF POSITION

Group Sales Manager

REPORTS TO: Vice President for Marketing


Position Summary:
The Group Sales Manager is a full-time staff position responsible for meeting and exceeding the group sales attendance and revenue goals in support of the overall earned income function of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.   The Group Sales Manager is responsible for planning and implementation of sales strategies, pricing and program development for Group Sales based on assigned segment(s), as well as implementation of tactical plans required to sustain and grow relationships with group leaders in the local and regional area. 

The primary method of accomplishing these goals is through focused planning, creative thinking, aggressive outbound sales calls and a commitment to excellent service. 

Essential Functions Include:

  • Solicitation of group sales business
    • Working with the Vice President for Marketing and the Director of Ticket Services, develop and implement a program that:  retains current group business, creates sales plans for targeting new buyers, research and prospect for new group buyers, manage direct contact with potential group buyers, networking to expand the outbound group sales effort and contacting prospects personally, create personalized and persuasive sales presentation packages, create events and programs that incent group purchase, work with other departments to convert their contact opportunities into group business, advise on required collateral and sales tool kit needs
  • Complete and manage group sales events
    • Using SLSO ticketing system, complete and seat group sales orders, implement cross-sell and up-sell opportunities to increase average order per group, plan and manage group events and coordinate service elements for all groups attending, including concert duty, bus duty, event planning and pre/post concert event staffing. 

Position Requires:

  • Broad knowledge of the group and travel/tour company industry involving extensive theoretical knowledge equivalent to a complete four-year college or university education, preferably in the Arts or Business marketing or sales.
  • Minimum 4 years of proven success in a group sales role
  • History of  leading and managing a team in group sales position, including direct and indirect supervision of staff
  • Strategic thinker who has the ability to link products with opportunities and develop creative packaging solutions that meet the organizations long-range goals.
  • An established broad network of professional contacts within the group sales industry.
  • Considerable judgment to work independently toward results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that reflect ability to motivate others toward reaching organizational objectives.
  • Knowledge of classical music and the symphony field preferred.  An appreciation for classical music required.

Ability to:

  • Apply principles to solve problems and deal with a multiple variables
  • Project a polished and professional image that positively reflects on the organization
  • Communicate with internal and external contacts with a high degree of persuasion and diplomacy
  • Work with confidential data
  • Use a personal computer, with proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet , and general experience with ticketing software (on-site training of SLSO ticketing software will be provided)
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating with internal and external contacts in a manner using considerable tact required to achieve results
