Mangoes, Strawberries, Cat Food and Worms

|

Principal keyboardist Barbara Liberman took on the task of rescuing a fallen fledgling this spring. Here’s a record of the progress of Barbara and bird:

Part 1: In late May, I found a baby bird in our front yard and have been monitoring its progress to adult birdhood. This process has been one of the most touching experiences of my life. Especially lovely is the connection created by my involvement in OTSL’s Street Scene. One of the lines in the opera refers to baby birds learning to spread their wings as they “try for the sky.” Every day, I get to be a first-hand witness to this beautifully expressed thought! I've named the bird Sturdy Birdie.

Part 2: Byrdie (notice the spelling change....the bird is so brilliant I had to come up with a more sophisticated version of Birdie) is still hanging around, maybe because I run a really good restaurant....or maybe I flatter myself. But where else could Byrdie get mangoes, strawberries, cat food and worms for breakfast and lunch?

Part 3: BYRDIE HAS A GIRLFRIEND...OR A BOYFRIEND!! I think I'll send out wedding announcements, and who knows, maybe baby shower invites!!

P.S. Barbara, If you have an update, send it on in.
