The following is from a list of reminders provided to members of the Saint Louis Symphony Chorus before taking the stage for Berlioz’s Eight Scenes from Faust:
KEEP IN MIND… AVOID TAPPING FEET AND COLOGNE/PERFUME as a consideration to your fellow singers…. many thanks.
This makes me think of two things:
1) When Linda Ronstadt sang Pirates of Penzance way back when, she said the hardest thing to accomplish in the crossover from rock & roll to operetta was to keep her foot from tapping
2) Just imagine trying to hit a high C after you have breathed in a big cloud of Eau de Bois, or some such fragrance
