As anyone who has traveled in the Midwest and the South in these United States knows, any food can be fried. And many people who live in these regions will tell you, any food is better fried.
In yesterday’s New York Times there was an article about the declining use of transfats in fair food. Reporting from the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis, the Times found such midway delights as fried Snickers bars, fried Reeses pieces, fried Oreos, and something called a fried Pepsi ball made with funnel cake batter and the cola of choice in the rural communities. But all are fried in oil sans transfats. Is that health conscious or what?
And then I thought about the fare we offer up at Powell Symphony Hall: the divine flourless chocolate cake and other such pastries. What about a fried Oreo to carry you through Brahms’ Symphony No. 2? I think this could be a real revenue generator.
