Yuck Factor

|

As I was leaving the Hall yesterday, I met bassist Carolyn White backstage, scissors in her blue Latex-gloved hands, cutting up pieces of thick, black, cushiony material.

I asked her what she was up to, and Carolyn told me that she was replacing the protective fabric in the lining of her double bass case. That would be protective fabric for the case that holds her 18th-century double bass. There was a sticky goo she was applying to the material, which contributed to a sort of yuck factor to the whole activity. Add this to the glamorous life of the artist.

Carolyn said the last time the lining was replaced was 25 years ago, so she figures this will serve for at least another 25 years.
