If you heard Gary Lee during the intermission interview on KFUO Saturday night, you got some sense of what a sweet, generous, high-spirited fellow he is. Son of Des Lee, father of David Lee, the Knickerbocker's star forward, Gary spoke lovingly of his dad, proudly of his highly-talented son, and with genuine admiration for the SLSO.
I had the privilege of escorting Gary and his friend Marilyn to the
makeshift radio studio on the seventh floor and back to their seats in
the auditorium just in time for da-da-da-daaaahhhh. Along the way Gary
exclaimed, "There is so much talent on that stage! I'm mostly a sports
guy, but this is truly a feel-good experience. You listen to them play,
and you can't help but leave feeling good." He paused, "You can't say
that about the Rams."
"At least we have the Cardinals," I added.
"The Cardinals are really good," said Marilyn.
And as much as I love baseball, and the Cardinals, I would posit that the odds of feeling good after a SLSO concert are better than after a Cardinals game. Even if the Cards win 100 games, they lose 62. I could probably count the number of times I've left an SLSO concert dissatisfied on one hand.
