Audition Information

PREPARING FOR THE AUDITION:
Singers are asked to perform a classical selection from memory.   This can be an art song, opera or oratorio aria, sacred piece or classical music theater solo.  The piece may be in any language.  Singers will also be asked to sight read and vocalize. The sight reading selection is usually a brief excerpt from an 18th or 19th century choral work.  Vocalizing will further demonstrate range and flexibility and help determine possible placement in the chorus. Auditions are heard by the chorus director and chorus manager and an accompanist is provided.  The entire audition will last ten minutes.

SCHEDULING AN AUDITION:
All auditions are heard by appointment.  The dates/times for auditions will be emailed to interested singers in an e-packet.  You should contact the manager to be put on the email list (RichardA@slso.org).  In the audition e-packet will be an informational letter, a complete schedule of rehearsals and performances, audition forms, the dates/times of the auditions, instructions for scheduling an appointment and details about the location of the auditions (most are held at the Symphony’s home:  Powell Hall).

PAID POSITIONS:
A limited number of paid positions are available.  These are awarded to singers who offer the strongest combination of the following:
*  Ability to perform as a soloist or solo cover with the Saint Louis Symphony in Powell Hall.
*  Beauty and strength of sound.
*  Excellence of musicianship including sight reading.
*  Availability for all performances.

Next Audition Dates: August 17, 18 & 19
