Adopt-A-School Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: 

In addition to our education concerts performed by the Orchestra at Powell Hall, the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, and in-school presentations by chamber ensembles throughout St. Louis, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) Community Partnership Department provides an in-depth partnership with area schools (elementary, junior and senior high) as part of our “Adopt-A-School” program. The partnership includes visits by members of the St. Louis Symphony for education presentations as individual musicians or chamber ensembles, chamber music coachings, ensemble sectionals, and master classes. Resources supporting the program may include computer software and instrument loans. The “Adopt-A-School” program is facilitated by the Symphony’s education staff collaborating with partner schools’ music specialists and administration and is presented at no cost to schools. 

 

PROGRAM GOALS:

• To provide an opportunity for ongoing collaboration between SLSO musicians and partner schools on a regular basis

• To ensure in-depth interaction between SLSO and students with a low student to musician ratio

• To augment and reinforce existing programs, working with the  administration and music specialist or assigned classroom teacher to support curricular goals

• To evaluate program throughout the partnership (mid-year, conclusion)
