
James Meyer was born and raised in St. Louis. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Clarinet from the Juilliard School, as well as a Masters in Music Education from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Prior to joining the St. Louis Symphony as clarinet and bass clarinet player, Meyer was Principal Saxophone with the West Point Band for three years, and clarinet and bass clarinet player with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra for two years.
Meyer began composing during his years as a student at Juilliard. He has composed 56 works in a wide range of genres including children’s opera, chamber music, and large orchestral works.
James Meyer has two sons and one grandson.
