SAINT LOUIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

REACHES $20 MILLION GOAL IN SPECIAL

 ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN

ST. LOUIS, January 25, 2006 – Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra President and Executive Director Randy Adams announced today the completion of the special $20 million endowment campaign for musicians salaries. The campaign was introduced in July, 2004 as a way to supplement musician salaries after the salary bridge fund ended in December 2004. The earnings from the added endowment will support the financial promises made during last season’s contract agreement between SLSO musicians and management.

“Today’s announcement is another positive step forward for an Orchestra that just a few years ago was on the brink of bankruptcy,” said Adams. “The completion of this campaign reaffirms the commitment of this community to support the Symphony and helps us as we continue to build our endowment to a level more in line with our peer orchestras.”

The SLSO’s current endowment stands at $116 million after reaching a low of $18 million five years ago. Many major orchestras have endowments in the $150 to $200 million range.

Founded in 1880, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra is recognized internationally as an ensemble of the highest caliber, performing a broad musical repertoire with skill and spirit.  In the 2005-2006 season, the Symphony continues to build upon its reputation for musical excellence while maintaining its commitment to local education and community activities.

A familiar presence in recording media, releases by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra have met with critical acclaim and have been honored with six Grammy Awards and fifty-six Grammy nominations. The Symphony also has issued several recordings on its own label, Arch Media, documenting its artistic distinction.
