SAINT LOUIS SYMPHONY
ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
OF DIANA HASKELL AS ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL CLARINET
AND JENNIFER NITCHMAN AS SECOND FLUTE
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Saint Louis Symphony
Orchestra has appointed Diana Haskell as
Assistant Principal Clarinet and Jennifer
Nitchman as Second Flute.
Diana Haskell is currently Assistant
Principal Clarinet of the Milwaukee Symphony
Orchestra, which she joined in 1991. In
addition, she was appointed Principal Clarinet
with the MSO for the 2001-02 season. She has
performed numerous solos during her twelve year
tenure and has appeared with orchestras
throughout the United States and in concerts in
Cuba, Europe and Japan. Prior to joining the MSO,
Ms. Haskell held the posts of Principal Clarinet
with Buffalo Philharmonic, the Savannah Symphony
Orchestra and Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and
performed a solo recital at Carnegie Hall. A
graduate of both The Juilliard School and
Eastman School of Music, she was a finalist in
the 1985 Naumberg International Competition
which led to a solo recital at Carnegie Hall. In
addition, she has taught flute at the State
University of New York at Buffalo, Houghton
College, the University of Wisconsin at
Whitewater, and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Jennifer Nitchman plays flute and piccolo
with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra while
pursuing her doctorate of music at Indiana
University. She has also performed with the
Brevard Music Center Festival Orchestra, the
United States Army Field Band, Columbus Indiana
Philharmonic, and Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Nitchman has won numerous competitions,
including the 2001 National Flute Association
Young Artist Competition, the Flute Society of
Washington Young Artist Competition, University
of Wisconsin at Madison Concerto Competition and
the Ithaca College Concert Competition. She has
held several teaching positions and is currently
an associate instructor of flute at Indiana
University.
Ms. Haskell and Ms. Nitchman will begin their
posts in St. Louis in September 2003.

the E. Desmond Lee Music Education
Collaborative. Through its Community Partnership
Program, the Orchestra provides more than 250
free ensemble performances throughout the St.
Louis region.
