I must add however, the St. Louis Symphony does not discourage applause
between movements. Every audience is different, and I’ve been surprised
in recent weeks that we’ve had the no-applause-between-movements
audiences. I’m sure on other weeks music lovers will be clapping
happily, say, after the first movement of the Brahms Violin Concerto
when David Halen plays it in January. As we said back in the day, “Don’t
