The St. Louis Symphony travels to California next week to perform two different programs in four cities: John Adams’ Saxophone Concerto and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 will be played in Alisa Viejo (Orange County), Palm Desert and Berkeley; and Messiaen’s From the Canyons to the Stars, with Deborah O’Grady’s video component, goes to Berkeley and L.A.’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. The loading begins.
Because From the Canyons does not call for a large orchestra, many musicians will return to St. Louis to rehearse and perform the concerts with Anthony Marwood, featuring Brandenburg 3, Dvorak’s Serenade for Strings, and the St. Louis Symphony premiere of Latvian composer Peteris Vasks’ violin concerto Distant Light, Feb 5-6.
Which means when you are loading your wardrobe, you need to pay attention as to whether you are an X or a Y, which is like something you were supposed to pay attention to in biology class.
