During the 2017/2018 season, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra honors the legacy of Music Director David Robertson, whose remarkable 13-year tenure will conclude at the close the SLSO’s 138th season. Defined by musical excellence, widespread acclaim, artistic partnerships, innovative programming, Grammy award-winning recordings and unprecedented orchestral achievements, David’s tenure is recognized as one of the most illuminating for the SLSO. Gratitude and Farewells as David Robertson’s Final Season as SLSO Music Director Begins
“On a Friday night in February 2002, David Robertson stepped in to conduct the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on tour at Carnegie Hall, replacing Hans Vonk who had suddenly fallen ill. Robertson was already music director of France’s Orchestre National de Lyon and had conducted many of America’s leading orchestras, but had led the SLSO only once before as a guest in 1999. He had a single three-hour rehearsal with the orchestra in New York…”
