St. Louis Symphony Volunteer Association Announces Award Winners

(St. LOUIS)- The 24th annual Picture the Music awards ceremony took place at Powell Hall on Wednesday February 25th. The St. Louis Symphony’s Volunteer Association is proud to announce this year’s Maestro Award winners;

  • Grades K-3: Alex Hutsell, 1st Grader at Dardenne Elementary School, O’Fallon, MO
  • Grades 4-6: JaDen Beasley, 6th Grader at Cool Valley Elementary School, Ferguson-Florissant School District 

Picture the Music gives local students the opportunity to explore the links between classical music and visual arts.  Students listen to a specific piece of symphonic music and bring it to life with their corresponding works of art. The fourth movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 inspired both award winners this year.

More than 13,000 students participated in the contest this year and 500 pieces were submitted for judging.

The 2015 Picture the Music exhibit was displayed at Powell Hall recently. The exhibition will be on display at the following locations;

March 9-19, 2015: Plaza Frontenac
March 20-April 1, 2015: St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre
April 2-12, 2015: St. Louis Public Library, Schlafly Branch
April 13-24, 2015: The Magic House
June 1-August 15, 2015: The Sheldon
