This  free six week residency engages early childhood teachers and their students, ages 3-6, in orchestral music with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. The unique emphasis on professional development provides educators with additional knowledge and tools to engage students in music on a daily basis, and allows for sustainability after the residency is completed. Lessons emphasize creating and exploring music through the framework of current early childhood curricula with a strong focus on literacy skills, physical development, and social and emotional development. Lessons incorporate instruments and singing into the daily classroom routine, elements of movement and dance, and active listening through a variety of hands-on activities and play related songs and games. Students experience live music performed by world-class musicians in their own classroom and at a Tiny Tunes concert in historic Powell Hall. Through the Symphony In Your School, Junior partnership, teachers and students discover and connect with orchestral music by creating, performing, and responding to music together.
