Symphony In Your School, Junior

Symphony In Your School, Junior is a free residency engaging early childhood students (ages 3-6) and teachers in orchestral music with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Early childhood educators attend a Professional Development Workshop to equip them with the knowledge and tools to engage their students musically on a daily basis. The SLSO Education Team collaborates with teachers to implement interactive and engaging lessons with an emphasis on creating and exploring music through the framework of current early childhood curricula including literacy skills, physical development, and social and emotional development.

Lessons incorporate music – including instruments and singing, elements of movement and dance, and active listening – through hands-on activities and play-related songs and games. Students experience live music performed by world-class musicians in their own classroom and at a Tiny Tunes Concert in historic Powell Hall. Through the Symphony In Your School, Junior partnership, teachers and students discover and connect with orchestral music by creating, performing, and responding to music together.
