Join the St. Louis Symphony as we explore the life and music of one of the greatest romantic composers, Felix Mendelssohn. Together we uncover how a young man absorbed his own experiences with identity and culture into his music-music that still resonates with us today.

The Lion and the Mouse

Students will have the opportunity to sit on the Powell Hall stage with members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra! They will hear the popular children’s story “The Lion and the Mouse” come to life with the music of Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg. Students will sing, dance, and perform right along with the musicians as our live Lion and Mouse act out their story. This 30 minute inter-active performance is specifically geared toward students age 3-6 and is a perfect first introduction to ochestral music. 

Instrument Playground Kits will be available in the foyer at 9am. Space is limited, reserve your spot today!

The Orchestra Sings - Note: This concert is sold out

Link Up is a hands-on music curriculum for students in grades 3-5 that explores orchestral repertiore in the music classroom while preparing students to sing and play recorders or string instruments from their seats in a culminating STL Symphony Link Up concert at Powell Hall.

Explore how the orchestra sings with your St. Louis Symphony. Together we will discover the wonders of melody through its shapes, patterns and the stories it tells. Through the Link Up repertoire, hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with the STL Symphony, your students will discover how the orchestra sings.

Coffee Concerts

Friday Coffee Concerts offer a unique opportunity for teachers to make Powell Hall their classroom for a morning! Students will experience a full-length SLSO concert as part of their school day. Visit our Coffee Concerts page for a full listing of concerts.

Ticketing Information

All tickets to education concerts are $5 each. You will receive one complimentary chaperone ticket per ten student tickets. Complete and submit the online Ticket Order Form. Invoices are mailed after online orders have been received and processed. Payment is due 30 days prior to the concert(s) and can be made by credit card, check or cash. No purchase orders, please. Tickets and day-of concert procedures are emailed after payment is received. Cancellations or exchanges can be made in advance of payment.

Subsidized Tickets & Transportation Assistance

For all of our education concert offerings, there are limited grant funds available to help offset the cost for tickets and buses for underserved* schools. Financial assistance is available on a first come first serve basis. To request assistance, please complete any ticket order form and complete the necessary information when prompted. If you have further questions, please contact Steve Moore in the box office.

* Underserved is defined as 50% or more of the school population on a free or reduced meal plan.
