Partnership Requirements

APPLICATION DEADLINE
The application deadline has been extended to Friday, April 27 for the 2018-2019 school year.

PARTNERSHIP
The SIYS partnership requires a full commitment on the part of the teacher(s) in terms of time, communication, and student preparation. All SLSO musician visits are provided free of charge to schools. In return, the participating classrooms are strongly encouraged to attend an Education Concert at Powell Hall during the academic school year in which the visit takes place.

REQUIREMENTS

  • All participating students must be in grades 1-5.
  • Please, no more than 30 students per program. Keeping groups smaller allows the children to interact with the musicians.
  • Participating schools must be within a 30-mile radius or no farther than 40 minutes from Powell Hall.
  • Participating classrooms must be able to be combined or meet back-to-back (within a two-hour window) on the day SLSO musicians visit.
  • All musician visits will be scheduled on Mondays and occasionally Tuesdays if necessary and feasible.
  • If your school schedule is not set in place by the application submission deadline, it may be necessary to switch your schedule to ensure the symphony is servicing the correct group of students.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
The teacher will be the main contact for communication with SLSO staff for scheduling, directions and logistical information. The teacher must be easily accessible by e-mail and cell phone. The teacher is strongly encouraged to schedule and arrange for tickets and transportation for an Education Concert field trip. The teacher is responsible for reminding the school of the upcoming musician visit as well as ensuring they are ready for their musician visits during their designated time. It is expected that musician visits are not cancelled except in the case of an emergency.
