Symphony In Your School, Secondary

SIYS, Secondary, a free residency program available for middle and high school bands and orchestras, provides music students the opportunity to interact with and learn from the world-class musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Ensembles selected to participate in SIYS, Secondary will receive visits from SLSO musicians tailored to the specific needs of each ensemble. Express the Music

Express the Music is a free competition sponsored by the Symphony Volunteer Association that authentically integrates creative writing into the English language arts and fine arts curriculums. 



SLSO College Connections

Using Symphony In Your College chamber concerts as a catalyst for field trips, students from selected middle and high schools experience a comprehensive college visit, including an overview and tour of the college, complimentary lunch, and a free one-hour SLSO chamber concert that is open to the public. Participation is by invitation only to school music programs that serve predominantly African-American or low-income rural student populations.



St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra! Nearly 100 young musicians between the ages of 12-22 make up the SLSYO and represent over 40 schools from throughout the bi-state region. Under the direction of Resident Conductor, Gemma New, our young musicians perform three concerts at Powell Hall each season. Encourage your students to join us for a concert and apply to be part of the fun! Applications for this ensemble will open in January 2020.

Mentoring the Music: Peer to Peer

Musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra are paired with young
talented African-American musicians for mentoring and training that goes
beyond the concert hall stage. The program connects entire families through
the enjoyment of orchestral music and develops a culture of mentorship in
