Friday Morning Classical Concerts

Share the power of live orchestral music performed by one of America’s top orchestras and show your students what’s possible! These two-hour “Coffee Concerts” begin at 10:30am, with free coffee and doughnuts available before the concert. Teacher’s Guides are available for the Education Team's Top Picks!

Subsidized tickets and transportation assistance are available for qualifying schools.

This free residency program for middle and high school bands and orchestras provides students the opportunity to interact with and learn from the world-class musicians of the SLSO. Ensembles selected to participate in SIYS, Secondary will receive visits from SLSO musicians tailored to their group’s specific needs.

This free cross-curricular writing competition invites students in grades 6-12 to discover a musical selection and respond with poetry or prose inspired by their creative understanding of the music. Sponsored by the Symphony Volunteer Association.

SLSO College Connections

SLSO College ConnectionsIn collaboration with Symphony In Your College chamber concerts, students from selected middle and high schools experience a comprehensive college visit. These field trips include an overview and tour of the college, complimentary lunch, and a free SLSO chamber concert.


St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra

St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra trumpetsThis year marks the 50th Anniversary of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra! Nearly 100 young musicians between the ages of 12-22 make up the YO and represent over 40 schools from throughout the bi-state region. The YO performs three concerts at Powell Hall each season.

The SLSO offers scholarships, mentorship, and performance opportunities for African-American students pursuing a degree in music or a music-related field at a college or university in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Mentoring the Music: Peer to Peer

Musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra are paired with young talented African-American musicians for mentoring and training that goes beyond the concert hall stage. The program connects entire families through the enjoyment of orchestral music and develops a culture of mentorship in our next generation of artists and audiences.
