Elizabeth Nguyen is a 17-year-old senior at Clayton High School and has been in the St. Louis Youth Orchestra for one year.  She began her musical studies on the violin with the Cape Girardeau Suzuki program offered at Southeast Missouri State University at age 5.  She then attended the Suzuki String Academy at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville driving several hours from Cape Girardeau to receive lessons every week. Before her freshman year, Elizabeth moved up to St. Louis and began attending Clayton High School.  In the summer of 2016, Elizabeth switched to the viola and began studying privately with Johanna Mendoza. She has been featured as a soloist with the St. Louis Civic, UMSL, and SEMO orchestras. In addition, Elizabeth is an avid chamber music player.  She has enjoyed nearly four years in the Webster Preparatory Program which aims to expose musicians to of chamber music in a pre-college setting. Last year, she was the violist in the Rader Quartet which competed in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Outside of music, Elizabeth is  passionate about science and enjoys boxing.
