Jack Snelling

Jack Snelling

Bassoon

Webster Groves High School

Jack Snelling is a senior at Webster Groves High school and has been involved with music since he began taking piano lessons at age 8. He began playing bassoon by accident during his freshman year, when his high school band teacher asked him to switch to bassoon from tenor saxophone. As a bassoonist, Jack played with the Webster Groves Wind Symphony at the 2017 MMEA Conference, was selected to the 2016-17 All-Suburban Concert Band, and played in a woodwind quintet that earned superior ratings at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival for three years in a row. He currently studies with SLSO bassoonist Felicia Foland.
In addition to playing bassoon, Jack is also a jazz pianist who plays throughout St. Louis; he has participated in Jazz St. Louis’ JazzU program for four years, and he was an alternate in the 2017 Missouri All-State Jazz Band. His private teacher for 9 years has been Carolbeth True. As a composer, his works have been played by numerous ensembles and he has won awards in 2016 and 2017 for his original compositions through the University of Missouri-Columbia. In his free time (or lack of free time), Jack plays a lot of NBA 2K and competes on his school’s scholar bowl team and tennis team. In addition to his amazing private teachers, he would like to thank teachers Kevin Cole, Jill Young, and Dane Williams for fostering his love of music.
