Jakob Mueller

Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville

Jakob Mueller is a junior music major with specializations in percussion performance and music business at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, where he studies under Dan Smithiger. This is his first year in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and he could not be more thrilled to be a part of this ensemble.

After managing to not get a single sound out of any wind instrument in fifth grade, Jakob decided percussion was his only hope for playing music. Since then, he has performed with the St. Louis Metro District Honors Concert Band at the junior high and high school level, performed in the Honors Band at the SIUE Bi-State festival, and earned the John Phillip Sousa award at his high school, Duchesne. Currently, Jakob is the principal percussionist in the SIUE Orchestra and is a proud member of the SIUE Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band, Drumline, and Marimba Ensemble.

In his free time, Jakob enjoys listening to a large variety of music, collecting CD’s, watching soccer, and hanging out with his fellow brothers in the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity.

Jakob would like to thank his percussion professor Dan Smithiger, his high school band director Kay Johnson, the Xi Tau chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, and all of his family and friends for their incredible support and guidance throughout his musical journey.
