Double Bass

Assistant Principal Lindbergh High School

This is Lauren’s first year as a double bassist in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. She is 17 years old and a junior at Lindbergh High School. In elementary school she began her musical adventure on viola, then decided she wanted a bigger instrument, so she switched to cello. She then upgraded to the cooler older brother of cello in sixth grade and has been playing for seven years. Lauren recently went full circle and took up viola again.

Lauren has been in the Missouri All-State Orchestra for the past two years, and has been appointed principal of her section both years. She is a passionate leader, who sometimes eats bagels during sectionals.

She was born in St. Louis at the tender age of zero, and has been living here since. Lauren shares her home with her cat, Dr. Scientist; her dog, Admiral Spaceship; bunnies, Mona and Leo; and of course her wonderful and supportive family.

Lauren would not be where she is today without her teachers and mentors. She would especially like to thank her orchestra teachers, Alex Chang and Chris Livesay, and her private instructor Erik Harris of the SLSO. Lauren’s experiences under the guidance of her pedagogues will not be forgotten or undermined as she continues to grow in her musical career, and will always remember those who made her who she is today and who will continue to influence her in years to come.

Lauren plans on majoring in Double Bass Performance in her undergraduate studies after graduating high school in 2018, and hopes to one day return to the St. Louis Symphony to play amongst her former teachers and colleagues.
