Rachel Chung

Alternate
Clayton High School

Rachel Chung is seventeen years old and will be a senior at Clayton High School in the fall. This is her third year as an alternate at the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Inspired by her sister, she began flute at eleven under the tutelage of Mrs. Carolyn Hoyer.

Other ensemble experiences Rachel has participated in include the MO All State Band, the SLSMEA All Suburban Honor Band, the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra at the Community Music School of Webster University, and the Clayton School District band program since sixth grade. She also plays flute in her school’s Jazz Ensemble, Woodwind Choir, and Pit Orchestra. She has received superior ratings since she first started participating in the MO Federation of Music Clubs in 2017. In her free time, she enjoys listening to all types of music, drawing, running, concert photography, and baking sourdough. You can also find her working at the St. Louis Art Museum.

She would like to thank Mrs. Carolyn Hoyer, Mrs. Alyssa Overmann, Mrs. Sophie Browning, Ms. Jennifer Shenberger, Mr. Mike Kanaan, Dr. Paul Varley, and her family for supporting her and their help through her musical journey.
