Nayoung Sarah Yoo

Marquette High School

Sarah (Nayoung) is a sophomore at Marquette High School. Sarah was born in South Korea in 2002, and moved to St. Louis in February of 2016. She participated in the All-State Missouri Orchestra 2017, which encouraged her to audition for the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.

She realized most people were having trouble with saying her name, Nayoung, so she told them to call her Sarah (even though many people still call her Nayoung. She knows there is going to be a confusion, but she is trying!!).

Sarah was born into a musical family, and started studying violin at age 3. However, she couldn’t continue studying violin due to a busy and tough school life in Korea. She used to live in St. Louis for 2 years when she was in preschool, in which she studied under a former violinist of the SLSO , and moved back to Korea. After living there for 8 years, she moved back to St. Louis in 8th grade. She went to Parkway Central Middle School, and met the orchestra conductor Clay Mckenney, who helped her study under Julia Sakharova, violinist of the Arianna String Quartet.

As well as playing the violin, Sarah loves figure skating, dancing, listening to music. She is also in Marquette Girls Golf team, and a member of US Figure Skating.

Sarah is so excited for her first season of SLSYO, and very grateful to everyone who’s been supporting her. She is especially thankful to Clay Mckenney, Julia Sakharova, her former teacher, and her parents who always let her enjoy and love music.
