Home Educated

Yosef E. Granillo, 13 years old, is a first-time full member of the St Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and he was an alternate member last year. He has been a first violin in the Webster Community Music School Young People’s Symphony Orchestra for the past two years and he was previously a first violin in the Young People’s Concert Orchestra, also at CMS. Yosef also spent four years in the Alton Youth Symphony Orchestra. Yosef won 1st place in the Missouri Music Teacher Association Pre-Collegiate Honors State Auditions in September 2021 and he was the Alton Symphony Orchestra Marie Stillwell Young Artists’ Competition Deborah Fox Guild 2020-2021 winner.

Yosef is very grateful to be a student of Joo Kim for the past four years. He also studied with Heidi Harris, Tova Braitberg, and last but not least, Alisha Beseth, who got him started on the violin when he was three years old. Yosef is also very grateful to his parents who support his musical and many other pursuits.

Yosef is now schooled at home but he was previously a student at the St Louis Regional Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students (PEGS) until he aged out, and is now a rising 12th grader. His interests are math, engineering, computer science, and of course, music!
