Christopher Carson joined the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in 1974 under Music Director Walter Susskind. Carson has played with the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Grant Park Orchestra. He and his wife, former SLSO Second Violin Deborah Bloom, have also played at the Sun Valley Music Festival.
Born in the Chicago Lying-In Hospital, Carson lived throughout the Midwest as a child. He began playing the double bass on his 13th birthday. As a high school student in Racine, Wisconsin, he traveled regularly to Chicago to take lessons from Chicago Symphony Orchestra bassist Warren Benfield. Carson briefly attended Northwestern University before becoming a member of the SLSO.
He and his wife live in Webster Groves. They have two daughters, Naomi and Ariel. Christopher Carson plays a double bass made in Naples, Italy in the mid-19th century.
