Celebrating Slatkin

Celebrating a remarkable 50-year partnership

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra celebrates the 50th anniversary of Leonard Slatkin's debut with the SLSO when the Conductor Laureate returns to lead the orchestra in two weeks of concerts – April 27-May 4. Slatkin’s two weeks of concerts are programmed around works and people with special meaning in his career, and includes the world premiere performances of Jeff Beal’s The Paper Lined Shack, a song cycle commissioned by the SLSO in honor of Slatkin featuring acclaimed soprano Hila Plitmann. Slatkin served as the SLSO's Music Director for 17 years, from 1979 to 1996, took the SLSO on dozens of regional, national and international tours, and conducted the SLSO on 70 albums. Slatkin also founded the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020.
