Stéphane Denève

Music Director 

Stéphane Denève joined the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra as Music Director in September 2019. Previously he served as Music Director Designate for the 2018/2019 season. He had also served as a guest conductor eight times from 2003-2018. In the 2019/2020 season, Stéphane will conduct 12 weeks with the SLSO, taking listeners on a musical journey bridging French and American musical cultures, a Franco-American Arch. His innovative programs includes works by French composers Ravel, Poulenc, Roussel, Debussy, Honneger, and Guillaume Connesson, complemented by works from American composers Gershwin, John Adams, Jennifer Higdon, Pierre Jalbert, Kevin Puts, and Aaron Jay Kernis. He also conducts some of the most beloved works in the classical repertoire, including Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, Brahms' Symphony No. 4, and a blockbuster production of Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust

He also joins the SLSO for its annual free concert in Forest Park, The Music of John Williams, and the BMO Wealth Management New Year's Eve Celebration.
