Accessibility at Powell Hall

The SLSO strives to make Powell Hall an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming environment for all.  We welcome all guests and are committed to providing accessibility support everywhere possible.  Please contact hospitality@slso.org with all accessibility questions and concerns.

Ticketing Assistance
The SLSO Box Office is available to assist with ticket purchases Monday – Friday, 10:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday, 12:00pm to 5:00pm in person or via phone at 314-534-1700.

Accessible Seating
Wheelchair accessible seating is available for every performance at Powell Hall.  Accessible seating in Orchestra Rear offers barrier-free access; Balcony seating is accessed via elevator and a short wheelchair lift to the Dress Circle level.

Tickets for accessible seating can be purchased by phone at 314-534-1700, online and in person.

Companion Seats
The SLSO provides free companion seats for those patrons who would be unable to attend without their companion’s assistance. To request complimentary companion seating, please contact the box office at 314-534-1700. Limit one complimentary ticket per order.

Mobility Assistance
Ushers are available to assist patrons using walkers, canes and other mobility assistive devices by storing the devices in the rear of the hall during the performance and returning them to patrons at their seats at intermission and at the conclusion of the performance.

Powell Hall provides courtesy wheelchairs upon request to assist patrons to and from their seats. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may be requested at the Guest Services desk in the foyer or curbside upon arrival.

Accessible parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the parking lot directly south of Powell Hall. These spaces are limited and fill up quickly, so early arrival is recommended. Additional accessible parking can be found in the Veterans Administration parking lot north of Powell Hall and at the Fabulous Fox parking garage. Regular parking rates apply. Please note that subscriber passes can only be redeemed at lots east of Grand Blvd.

Building Access
Barrier-free entry is through the main entrance on Grand Blvd, through the Box Office.  There is a power-assist door at this entry, and an Outdoor Customer Service Attendant is available to assist with entry for all performances.

Accessible restrooms and family restrooms are located on the house-right side of the first floor of Powell Hall (orchestra level) and include changing tables.

A passenger elevator is located on the house-right side of the first floor to assist patrons wishing to access the upper levels of Powell Hall. For access to accessible seating in Dress Circle, take the elevator to “Balcony”, where an usher will assist with the wheelchair lift into wheelchair accessible seats in Dress Circle.

Service Animals
Trained service dogs are welcome. We recommend aisle seating for patrons with service animals to allow sufficient room for them to sit or lay down. Please contact the Box Office at 314-534-1700 with any questions or concerns.

Assistive Listening Devices
Assistive listening devices are available free of charge and can be checked out from the Guest Services desk in the Wightman Grand Foyer with a valid photo ID. Each device has a headphone jack for either an induction loop accessory (for patrons with telecoil compatible hearing aids) or for headphones. Patrons are welcome to bring their own headphones or use the ones provided.

Interpretive Services and Open Captions
Interpretive services will be made available upon request with a minimum two-week notice. Please contact hospitality@slso.org or call 314-286-4120 for all ASL Interpreter requests.  Appropriate seating locations may be necessary.

Open Captions are provided for most movies with live score performed at Powell Hall. Please contact hospitality@slso.org to inquire about open caption capability for the performance you plan to attend.

Large-print Programs
Large-print programs are available free of charge for classical concerts at the Guest Services desk in the Wightman Grand Foyer.

Braille Programs
Braille programs are available free of charge for select performances with a minimum two-week notice. Please contact hospitality@slso.org or call 314-286-4120 for all braille requests.

Sensory Sensitivity
If you or a member of your group have sensory sensitivity and may need special accommodations (ear plugs, early entry/exit or reentry to the hall), please contact hospitality@slso.org in advance or notify the House Manager at the Guest Services desk on-site and we will be happy to help.

First Aid
In partnership with Washington University Physicians, the SLSO has a volunteer physician on duty at Powell Hall for all SLSO performances. If you need assistance, please alert the nearest usher or member of the SLSO staff.

Emergency Evacuation
In the event of an emergency evacuation, please follow the direction of our trained ushers, who will direct you out of and away from the building. If you require mobility assistance, specially trained ushers will assist you out of the building or to a safe waiting zone until emergency personnel arrive.
