Stay connected to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra! Enjoy unique opportunities to engage with musicians and fellow members of the SLSO family and learn about our mission to enrich lives through the power of music.

Lunch & Learns

The SLSO offers Lunch & Learns to take a deeper dive into the institution's work, from learning about the orchestra's many programs on the Emerson Stage and in the community to a fresh look at classical music. Lunch & Learns are hosted monthly and open to all who wish to learn more about the SLSO’s mission to enrich lives through the power of music.

The next Lunch & Learn—a special edition "Sip & Learn"—will take place at 5:00pm, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, via Zoom. Join us as we explore pairings of your favorite orchestral pieces with wine. Learn how music and wine have inspired each other and sparked dialogues with SLSO Creative Partner Tim Munro, Principal Oboist Jelena Dirks and sommelier Aaron Sherman. Bring a glass of your favorite beverage and take part in this captivating conversation.

Wine List for January's Sip & Learn

Below are several wines that are available locally for SLSO patrons to enjoy. These are meant to be delicious, easy-going, and perfect to enjoy on their own, no pairings required.

2018 Augusta Chambourcin
Dry red wine made from the Chambourcin (sham-bor-san) grape. Deep burgundy in color with an aroma of berry fruit, cassis, plum, and licorice. The full body is rich, spicy, and earthy followed by a jammy fruit finish that leaves a velvety feel in the mouth. Chambourcin is very similar to a Merlot and is delicious with BBQ, steak, and pork.
Available at Augusta Winery

2019 Montelle Chardonel
Dry white, made from the Chardonel (shahr-du-nel) grape, a hybrid of the Chardonnay and Seyval grapes. The bouquet is that of apple, pear, and fig. With its medium body and lingering finish, Chardonel is perfect paired with seafood or chicken.
Available at Montelle Winery

Urgency Pinot Noir, California
Urgency is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir grown by Clay and Angie Shannon. The vineyard crosses from Lake County (North of Napa and Sonoma) into Contra Costa county. It is a rich, voluptuous style of Pinot Noir, full of luxurious fruit notes and soft, supple texture, much like Chopin’s Sonatas or Brahms’ piano works.
Available at The Wine Merchant, LTD

Domaine Perraud Macon-Villages (Chardonnay), Burgundy
This beautifully styled Chardonnay has all the elegance you’d expect of a French wine coupled with the rich fruit notes of a more modern style. Think of it like Conneson’s compositions, where it is familiar in style, yet surprisingly more harmonious and lushly textured than you might expect in 21st century music. The wine has soft, ripe flavors of apples and pears, mingling with hints of orange cream.
Available at Starrs
