One and Done = So Much Fun
Do you have limited time to volunteer? Are you sometimes available on short notice? Do you like working on a variety of projects? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the SVA’s newest committee, One and Done, is designed for you! Below are some of the benefits of One and Done:

  • We can involve new SVA members immediately so they feel a part of the organization and we can re-engage veteran members who would like to participate.
  • We work at a variety of times and places—great for members who are employed, have active family lives, or other volunteer commitments.
  • Our work often falls beyond any particular committee's scope. Examples include: Santa's helpers at Holiday Concerts, fur pickup and delivery, Pick a Party! assistance, mailings and more!
  • Committee chairs can call on One and Done any time they need more volunteers for a project.
  • We often work directly for various departments at Powell Hall. The One and Done team will tell you the sincere gratitude of the staff is enough to warm the heart of any volunteer.

To get involved, contact Sara Fabick or Linda Seibert to join the email list for future One and Done opportunities.

FUNDRAISING

Let’s Rally the Troops
Anne Carman is finalizing the volunteer list for the Parties of Note Pick a Party! on Sunday, April 22 at Plaza Frontenac. Sign up today and join us for this delightful party at a brand new venue for the SVA.

Forty Years in the Making
What better way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Gypsy Caravan than with a smashing party? Join us on Friday, May 4 at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course Champion’s Room in Forest Park in your best “Gypsy Casual” attire for a fun gathering. Chair Jarmaine Migala and her dedicated committee members have planned an evening filled with cocktails and an array of heavy hors d’oeuvres for your enjoyment.

While you are visiting with SVA members, family, and friends, you’ll have the opportunity to bid on an exciting lineup of silent auction items including a weekend at a fabulous condo in Keystone, tickets for a prime Muny box, a “stay-cation” in St. Louis, a vintage pair of Chanel earrings and more!

Make your reservations by calling the Powell Hall Box Office at 314-534-1700 or contact Jarmaine Migala for more details.

Calling All Gypsies!
Our biggest fundraiser of the year, Gypsy Caravan, is quickly approaching! Can we count on you to help for a few hours? Thousands of shoppers will descend upon the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. We’ll need an army of volunteers to make this another successful event for the SVA. Contact Genie Wilhelm to learn about a variety of volunteer opportunities.

EDUCATION

A Beautiful Expression
The Express the Music committee held a wonderful awards ceremony last night at Powell Hall to honor the 48 top finalists in this year’s competition. Imaginative essays, short stories, and poems were submitted by several area schools from students in grades 6-12. Prizes were awarded to the top three entries in the junior and senior divisions. Click here to read the winning entries and for more information.

Picture the Music Exhibition
Don’t miss your chance to see this spectacular display of student artwork at our last two exhibition venues for 2012:

April 19-28: St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre

SVA OFFICE

Thank You, Susan!
Susan Pribble, SVA member and former Director of Volunteer Activities (May through December 2010), has served as the Interim Director of Volunteer Activities and assisted the SVA membership as our primary liaison with our Powell Hall colleagues during Amee Colvin’s maternity leave. We thank her for all of her help during this time!

Welcome Back, Amee!
Young Landon Colvin has agreed to let his mom come back to the SVA beginning Wednesday, April 18. Amee will be available at the SVA office three days per week (Tues, Thurs, Fri) from 9:00am–5:00pm and may be reached at 314-286-4153 or 314-289-4168 or viaemail. Committees should continue to schedule meetings two weeks in advance with Amee so she can secure parking for members and ensure that the office is available.

St. Louis, MO 63103
Office Hours: Tues, Thurs, and Fri; 9:00am–5:00pm

SVA committee meetings can be scheduled at the SVA office with Director of Volunteer Activities, Amee Colvin. For these pre-arranged committee meetings, parking is available in the SLU lot just east of the Centene Center. Please obtain a parking sign from your committee chair prior to the meeting and place it on your car’s dashboard. This will indicate that you are with the SVA and you will not be charged. All of the parking spots have numbers, but none of the spaces are reserved.

A member of your SVA committee should be available in the Centene Center lobby to let you into the building. If you arrive late and no one is there, use the call box at the street entrance. Scroll down to “Symphony Volunteer Association,” hit the call button, and Amee will respond. You may also call the office directly at 314-289-4168 for building entrance.
