Link Up

Link Up is a hands-on music curriculum for students in grades 3–5 that explores orchestral repertoire in the music classroom while preparing students to sing and play recorders or string instruments from their seats in a culminating St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Link Up concert at Powell Hall. If you are teaching recorder, singing, or beginning violin, this curriculum is a must!

Introduce your students to the orchestra by helping them get ready to become a part of it! Find out more by watching this short video from our partners at Carnegie Hall.

What to expect when you become a Link Up teacher:

  • Complete the online Link Up Registration Form - this is also the Link Up concert tickets order form (all tickets are $5*)
  • Attend the Link Up Professional Development Workshop in September or October at Powell Hall - it's required for all teachers new to the program/curriculum
  • Link Up materials, including student workbooks and teacher guides, are availble online
  • Teach the curriculum in your classroom in preparation for the Link Up concert at Powell Hall - most teachers usually start after winter break
  • Participate in the ultimate summative assessment of student learning, the Link Up concert, where you and your students will perform along with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra

*Students will need to provide their own soprano recorders.

Link UpThe Orchestra Swings
Tuesday, May 7, 9:30am & 11:00am
Wednesday, May 8, 10:00am

Though swing is characteristic of jazz, an orchestra can also swing. Through the Link Up repertiore, hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with the SLSO, we will explore the elements of rhythm, form, improvisation, and communication that contribute to that magical moment when the orchestra starts to swing.

This is a national program of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute.
