Special event celebrates and raises funds for St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s wide range of music and community programs

(March 1, 2023, St. Louis, MO) – On April 27, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the country’s second oldest orchestra, will host a special event and fundraiser at Powell Hall called SLSO Celebrates!

The event will highlight the impact of the SLSO’s programs in the St. Louis region and feature the SLSO family of music ensembles—with performances by Music Director Stéphane Denève, SLSO musicians, and vocalists from the St. Louis Symphony Chorus and St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus. In addition to musical entertainment, the evening will include a live auction and paddle raise with all proceeds going towards the SLSO’s programming and education and community activities, and education, which is solely supported philanthropic gifts from the community and accounts for 37% of the SLSO’s annual budget.

Concertmaster David Halen is the program’s emcee. Co-Chairs for the event are David and Miran Halen and Jimmy and Janet Williams.

Tickets are on sale now for $125, with a young friend ticket (ages 40 and under) on sale for $75 at slso.org/celebrates. Tickets include valet parking, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a dessert and champagne reception.

Solely supported by philanthropic gifts, the SLSO’s Annual Fund supports the SLSO’s mission to enrich lives through the power of music, making the orchestra’s programming accessible to all, inspiring students to get involved with music, and funding the institution’s robust community outreach efforts. The SLSO’s education programs reached more than 250,000 students and teachers in 48 states and 17 countries in the 2021/2022 season. Annually, the SLSO performs more than 200 concerts, free events, and education programs—appearing at Powell Hall and throughout the region at houses of worship, higher education institutions, local landmarks, and other public spaces. Since the start of Stéphane Denève’s tenure as Music Director, the SLSO’s has sharpened its focus on access: Tickets for most concerts start at $15. Through SLSO Access, a free ticketing program for community partners in the St. Louis region and beyond, the SLSO has issued thousands of free tickets since 2019. In the 2022/2023 season to date, the SLSO has given more than $80,000 in free tickets to partners, which include Big Brothers Big Sisters, St. Louis Housing Authority, Pianos for People, and more. The Annual Fund makes up 37 percent of the SLSO’s annual budget.
