Aaron Wolz

Aaron is 18 years old and plays viola. This is his third season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (SLSYO). He is a freshman at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. He will be studying with Kathrine Lewis for his major in viola performance.

Aaron began playing the viola at age 10. His music career includes the St. Charles County Youth Orchestra (SCCYO) for seven years and the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra at the Community Music School of Webster University (CMS). Additionally, he was selected by the St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association to perform with the St. Louis All Suburban Orchestra four years in a row.
Aaron has been recognized with multiple exemplary musician awards at the local, regional and state levels. He also plays the piano and enjoys composing his own music. His most recent composition was performed by a trio at the CMS Composition Camp.  He has attended multiple viola and music camps, most recently he attended the American Suzuki Institute at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. His favorite music memory is playing with the SCCYO at the Missouri Music Educators Association’s annual conference. He was also honored to serve as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s first Youth Orchestra Library Intern two years previously.

Aaron would like thank his music teacher Irena Goren-Scheer (Pattonville School District) for introducing him to the viola and classical music. She inspired him to be the musician he is today and continues to support him throughout his continued music journey. He would also like to recognize the following for their roles in his musical journey. Amanda Tallant for being a great mentor in the music library at Powell Hall. Brad and Kirby Kay (West County Strings) for challenging him through his lessons and preparing him for auditions and performances. Finally, and most especially, Aaron would like to thank his mother, Heather, for her continued support and chauffeuring him to each and every lesson, camp and performance before he was able to drive himself.

In addition to his love of music, Aaron has three cats with his favorite being Bella. He also speaks German, enjoys playing a variety of games, and spends time with his fellow musician friends.
