Portrait of G Schmiedeke

Youth Orchestra

G Schmiedeke

University of Missouri–St. Louis

This year will be G’s third season in the St Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, and he could not be more excited. He would like to thank his high school orchestra teacher, John Mazar, as well as high school band directors Jeremy Loui, Daniel Pace, and Peter Repp, his parents Beth and Tom Schmiedeke, his violin teacher, Abbie Steiling, and the UMSL music department for supporting him this year and always!

G has played violin since they were a toddler and is studying music education and violin performance at UMSL as a freshman this year. He has played various stringed instruments in musical groups throughout high school and into college, including Rockwood Summit’s Symphonic and Concert Orchestras, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Percussion Ensemble, as well as YPSO, YCM, Pizzazz, Strolling Strings, All Suburban, and the All-State Orchestra. G was also a part of the inaugural performance of the International Pride Orchestra in June of 2023! G loves to pick up whatever instrument is closest and jam, and is happiest when playing in pit orchestras or learning about music theory and history. He hopes to play in pits professionally and teach music after college!
