St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra

The region’s premier student orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (YO) is an auditioned ensemble of 100 accomplished young musicians from across the St. Louis region and beyond. Recognized nationally for its exceptional artistry, the YO performs multiple concerts each season at Powell Hall at the Jack C. Taylor Music Center.

Musicians in the YO, ages 12 to 22, regularly receive coaching from St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians and participate in the SLSO’s Peer to Peer mentorship program. They also participate in key events throughout the season, from the annual Forest Park concert to Concerts for Kids and more. Founded in 1970 by SLSO Conductor Laureate Leonard Slatkin, the YO has more than 2,000 alumni across the country, including many who have pursued music as a career path.

Since 2024, the YO has been under the direction of Samuel Hollister, The Fred M. Saigh Youth Orchestra Music Director.
